Paper Robots

                          I discovered Awesome Paper Models

Have you ever wondered how to spend lots and lots of quiet time with your kids?  Last year I discovered a world of paper models.

Paper modeling is fun, yeah -- but when you see these robots it becomes an addiction!!

Paper Robots. They are the absolute best!!! They are basically action figures. The added fun is that you get to design your characters. When you finish a few, no need to buy action figures - paper robots are here !!

My son was eight years old at the time and this site had Transformers and Spiderman......perfect! The models are really simple templates that you can print out. Cut them out and make all the body parts and then assemble them using rubber bands for joints. The instructions are clear, though it takes a while to get the hang of it.

The figures are fully articulated, even at the ankle joints making them super pose-able and realistic.
My son and I learned about how to draw 2 dimensional patterns to make a 3 dimensional form. This was also a great hit with students in the art classes I was teaching.

I hope that next time you have a rainy day or feel like getting into something new you will do a little web search and have as much fun as we did making these models. All you need is paper, glue and rubber bands.
Here is a site to get you started :
http://cp.c-ij.com/en/contents/1006/   this is site hosted by canon, and it has lots of great stuff for all ages.

Optimus Prime and Jetfire from the Transformers actually transform!

Some tips for making the robots :
If you want the figures from paperrobots1999.com to be more than say four inches tall, you will need to enlarge the patterns after downloading them. Use cardstock or glue the printout to another piece of paper so they are  not flimsy.
